Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Colossians 3:16

One of the simplest methods for memorizing Scripture is to write or print out the verse–or look it up in your Bible–and then cover up the words as you try to remember them. Of course you will first want to read through the verse out loud several times, one phrase at a time–until you are somewhat familiar with it. Then take a paper and cover up all but the first line of the verse. Take another paper and cover up all the words on that first line except for the first word. 

Read the first word and see if you can remember what word comes next. Repeat the process, doing the best you can; uncover whenever you need to. Once you’ve done this through the whole verse, read the entire verse out loud a time or two, and give it another shot covering up the words. Do this until you can remember larger and larger chunks, and eventually the whole verse, along with the reference. Whenever you get stuck and can’t remember the next word, just uncover the first letter or two and see if that’s enough to remind you.
