Lead Pastor

General Description

The lead pastor provides the spiritual leadership for the church by coming alongside the elders to develop a vision for Kimball Christian Church. This position is also responsible for the spiritual health of the church as well as developing a discipleship strategy.

 

Essential Job Functions

The job functions of the lead pastor will include, but not limited to: shepherding the congregation, regularly preaching and teaching, and developing a discipleship model.

  1. Lead, along with the elders, by setting a vision for Kimball Christian Church in the direction of God’s choosing and design.

  2. Provide pastoral care by offering spiritual direction and guidance while encouraging decisions and commitments to Christ.

  3. Routinely schedule hospital and in-home visits as needed based on the needs of the congregation.

  4. Be available for pastoral services such as officiating weddings and funerals. As well as being available for counseling.

  5. Cooperatively work with the Executive Pastor to enlist the assistance of staff or volunteers to fulfill ministry duties as needed.

  6. Create and maintain a “pastoral care report” outlining the needs of the congregation.
    (i.e. Work with the staff to keep records of births, baptisms, marriages/divorce, job changes, financial crisis, death, etc.)

  7. Serve as the primary teacher during weekend services and special worship services.

  8. Cooperatively work with the worship minister to create engaging weekly worship services.

  9. Lead the development of a discipleship strategy which will be implemented in all ministries of

    the church.

  10. Create teaching opportunities that support and grow the discipleship strategy.

  11. Perform other duties as described by the elders.

 

Education and Experience

This position requires a minimum of 5-10 years ministry experience, preferably within a pastoral leadership capacity. He must demonstrate a passion for pastoral care, preaching, and discipleship ministry. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in ministry, general bible, or similar is required and further education is preferred. The successful candidate should have a proven track record of Christ-like character, effective servant-leadership, and will be discipleship minded.
